Easy Pizza Sauce Recipe

More Easy Healthy Recipes

This is an easy pizza recipe that I like to do all the time. I've listed my topping here, but you can pretty much ignore them and choose the ones you want instead. To ensure your recipe is healthy, I would recommended steering clear of pepperoni or other pork option, as they are the primary thing that makes pizza bad for you.

Pita Pizzas are a lot of fun to do with the whole family. If you aren't making your own sauce, they are very fast to make. This requires very little prep time, you can personalize each pizza to whatever your family wants to eat, or you can do a whole batch all the same.

The nice thing with Pita Pizzas is that they are very versatile, and easy to make healthy. I let my kids help me put them together, so it makes it go even faster and it's a fun experience for everyone.

In addition, little personal pizzas are quite lovely, and make a fun "fancy" appetizer if you have guests coming over. This ridiculously easy recipe can make you look like a cooking aficionado.

Quick Easy Pizza Recipe:

Serves 4

Prep time: 10 - 15 minutes

Cook time: 10 - 15 minutes

Must Haves:

  • 2T Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, or Coconut Oil
  • 1 pkg Whole Wheat Pita Bread
  • Classic marinara sauce
  • Cheese of choice (classically this would be shredded mozzarella, I like to use goat cheese or ricotta as well. You can choose what you like)

Toppings: (These are my toppings. You can choose what you like)

  • 2 links Chicken apple sausage sliced
  • 1 Poblano pepper (these are not spicy)
  • Fresh Basil

Other Common Healthy Toppings:

  • Shredded or chopped chicken or turkey
  • Lean ground beef
  • Black olives
  • Bell peppers
  • Spinach
  • Chopped tomatoes

When you read through these ingredients, I hope they help you choose good topping for your own easy healthy pizza recipe, but you can also completely disregard them and choose the topping that you want.

I once heard in a cartoon (I can't remember which one) "Pizza is a food of the heart, don't ever let anyone tell you what belongs on your pizza."

Those are words I live by in most of my cooking. Food come comforts way deep down inside, you decide what goes on your pizza. It all really bakes the same way.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius)

Coat one side of each pita with oil. Place the Pitas in the oven oil side down for 5 minutes to toast the bread. (This prevents it from becoming soggy while it bakes with the sauce on it later.) I bake my pita pizzas directly in the oven without any kind of a baking sheet. They taste a little better when they are exposed to the heat this way.

Pizza 1: Chicken Sausage and Goat Cheese Pizza 2: Sliced Poblano and bell peppers with Mozzarella Pizza 3: Chicken Sausage and Fresh Basil with Mozzarella and Goat cheese Pizza 4: Fresh Basil, Mozzarella, and Goat Cheese

Remove the Pita from the over and coat the other side with oil, and face that side down. (This is going to be the bottom of you pizza)

With the toasted side up, add your sauce, then your toppings of choice, then add your cheese.

Put back in the oven until the cheese is completely melted, and a little golden brown. About 10 - 15 minutes
